6. Land Cover / Land Use for reporting GHG emissions and removals from LULUCF sector.

This task focuses on conducting a comprehensive analysis on the usefulness of CLMS products for current and future obligations towards national accounting and reporting of GHG emissions and removals from LULUCF. Verifying the enhanced LCLU database for the purposes of the LULUC sector.
Coordinated by the Institute of Environmental Protection – National Research Institute.

Specific Tasks:
Task 6.1 Review of the EU and national regulations related to reporting obligations in the context of land cover, land use and changes.
Task 6.2. Assessment of the usefulness of CLMS products for reporting GHG emissions and removals from LULUCF.
Task 6.3 Verification of the geospatial, enhanced LCLU and changes database for reporting GHG emissions and removals.

We have finalised the first deliverable: Report on the EU and national regulations related to reporting obligations in the context of land cover, land use and changes.

Ongoing activities:
We are conducting the assessment of the usefulness of CLMS products for reporting GHG emissions and removals from LULUCF. The comprehensive analysis of spatial and thematic content of the CLMS products in respect to current and future obligations towards national accounting and reporting of GHG emissions and removals will be carried out. The CLMS in particular the pan-European products are verified if they can support the future LULUCF reporting at the country level. The integration of the HRLs will be carried out to derive more accurate land cover map at the national level for the reference year 2012, 2015 and 2018. The geospatial HRL-changes in the Imperviousness, Forests, Grasslands, Water and Wetness areas will be used to derive the values for the GHG emissions and removals from the LULUCF sector. The results will be compared with statistic calculated for those years following the traditional top-down approach, which requires many assumptions. This analysis will be carried out in Poland (at national level).
