During the prestigious Living Planet Symposium, organized by the European Space Agency, the results of research carried out as part of the InCoNaDa_UA project were presented. The study focused on detecting forest loss between 2020 and 2022 and assessing the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on changes in forest cover, with particular attention to woody to non-woody conversioon and burned forest.
The analysis covered four Ukrainian regions: Lviv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, and Kharkiv. The findings show that following the outbreak of the war, both the demand for timber and the area of burned forests doubled.
The research was presented in the form of a poster during the session .02.04 Advances in Monitoring and Management of Forest Ecosystems – Classification and Clustering VI.
